Full-Stack Engineer (Fractional)
Contract Type: part-time
Start date: 4th September 2023
Location: remote. UK preferred. European working hours are also possible (GMT to GMT+2).
At Bloomful, we believe access to high-quality women's healthcare should be friction-free and personalised to all who need it. That's why we're building a new, digitally enabled patient journey for better gynaecological health.
We are recruiting the first member of our engineering team to support our mission to redesign women’s reproductive health.
Patient journeys in women’s health are chaotic, ambiguous and outdated. Common gynaecological conditions can take 10+ years to diagnose, impacting people's quality of life, ability to work and mental well-being. Meanwhile, biotech and pharma companies struggle to get the data they need to develop better treatments.
Bloomful is developing an AI-powered platform for diagnosing and managing common gynaecological conditions like PCOS and endometriosis whilst building an actionable gynaecological data infrastructure to advance research in the field.
We are backed by Google for Startups and are female-founded.
This is the role for you if...
This role is ideal for an experienced full-stack engineer seeking the opportunity to shape a new product from the ground up, take responsibility for early technical decisions and deliver in a green-field environment with autonomy and trust.
We are looking for a motivated candidate with the confidence and experience to work in partnership with the rest of our team to drive early delivery. The role has the potential to grow in multiple ways: either to deepen as an individual contributor or to grow into a lead position as the team takes shape.
What you'll be doing
As the first engineering employee at Bloomful, you'll play a fundamental role in shaping our product and technology. This role will be primarily hands-on building.
With our support, you'll take responsibility for the technical direction of Bloomful and the development of our software engineering capabilities.
Iterate on Bloomful’s no-code prototype to deliver a production-ready product. This will involve defining our technical and data architecture, building web-based interfaces, implementing clinical algorithms and building API integrations. Rigorous testing and validation processes are expected to ensure user safety and compliance with medical device regulations.
With the help of UX, design and regulatory affairs professionals, you will build a secure, regulation-compliant (class IIa medical device) software that our users trust, enjoy using and support our revenue generation.
Shape our engineering culture and practices, and grow the engineering team when we’re ready.
Exercise great judgement on laying our technical foundations - this will impact us and future team members in the long term!
Collaborate with regulatory affairs professionals to prepare and submit necessary documentation for regulatory approvals.
Who you are
We don’t have any degree requirements; we’re looking for a hands-on full-stack engineer with good UX and design instincts and database design skills.
You ideally have 5+ years of experience in an engineering role and a few years at a senior or lead level.
You have experience working on ambitious, green-field projects, building products from the ground up in a startup environment.
You have a user-centric approach and are passionate about building exceptional user experiences.
You are excited at the opportunity to help us grow and shape our engineering culture and team.
You are comfortable working remotely in an asynchronous team.
You have excellent communication skills and are able to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical people.
Ideally, you have some experience in developing software in a highly regulated environment (e.g., finance, healthcare).
Bonus if you can bring some expertise in machine learning, large language models, natural language processing, and/or chatbot development.
Compensation range pro rata of £65-80k p.a.
Remote-first working with typically one day a week of in-person co-working within London if you are local.
Flexible working hours.
25 days holiday (pro rata) in addition to bank holidays.
Exciting opportunity to be part of the growing UK Femtech scene and be at the forefront of innovation in women’s health.
More perks to be added as we grow…you’ll be involved in shaping our company culture!
Our application process
Just so you know, we don't need a cover letter for your application.
Our standard interview process includes 3 steps and will be entirely remote:
30 min screening interview with Léa (Head of Operations) to introduce you to Bloomful, the role and find out a bit more about you and your experience.
1 hour with Steven (technical), which involves a technical interview. You should leave this call understanding exactly where we are, where we’re going and what will be expected from you.
45 min with Dupe (Founder and CEO), who will answer any further questions you may have about us, our future and the role.
